I've just seen a hornet - not the green kind - but a real one. It's only the second time I think.
It was so big I had to get out of my deck chair because 1. I was intrigued and 2. Terrified!
It must have been 2 inches long and a quarter fat. And loud! Like a Chinook chopper landing!
Sooo much bigger than a British wasp!

A few years ago they built a nest down our chimney and would emerge into the living room at night seemingly drawn by the light - they were terrifying! Large, loud, aggressive and difficult to kill. After some thought i sealed up the fireplace with poly sheeting and patiently waited for the Autumn (a pest controller told me that's when they were likely to die off) Eventually they did, and after that i called in builders to seal up the fireplace and cap off the chimney (the nest they removed was so large that it filled a bin bag! 😳)
