Sci-Fi TV this Last Week

The Boroughs: what a breath of fresh air this series was. Clearly made for old f*rts like me and the Missus, this US sci-fi show was Stranger Things for pensioners. Indeed it was made by the same team I understand. Both of us loved it and watched the whole shabang over two nights. And not a teenager in sight! Yay!

Anyone else caught the Burroughs?

The Expanse: this series was one for me after the Missus went to bed. I began last night. An American space drama set on Ceres with stints on Earth and Mars too. It seems to be about air and water though I'm unsure yet. It's a cocktail of ALIEN, Space Precinct, Outland and the Fifth Element, the jaded cop being Thomas Jane aka the Punisher. He also reminds me of Brogan in Space Precinct, at least to look at.

I'm not sure about the Expanse yet but I'll give episode three a go.

I think it's based on a series of novels.

Anyone read them? Have you seen the Expanse?

  1. The Expanse is fabulous, real hard SF with lots of politics, physics, metaphysics and action. Based on a series of books (and comics?) by James Corey, who is two people. The Boroughs I read about and decided to avoid - apparently it's too derivative of lots of other things, and the plot doesn't hold together. Currently I'm ploughing through Fallout Season 2, which is worthy, but a bit slow - do we really need all the flashbacks when we know how things are going to work out...?

  2. I've recently bought the box set of The Expanse, but haven't started watching it yet.
I have all four Seasons of For All Mankind which is the BEST hard SF series I've ever seen!

    1. Looked it up Looey. For all Mankind. It does look good. The Missus and me have embarked on Fallen Skies with Noah Wiley. 60 episodes!

    2. I tried For All Mankind and found it awfully slow, but perhaps I'll give it another go... or watch it on fast-forward... of course Babylon 5 is being shown on Talking Pictures TV, and that IS the best SF show ever made...
