Here is the latest model off the work bench - the Convair XFY Pogo.

In an ongoing effort to solve the problem of long runways for aircraft take-off, Convair made a prototype of a Vertical Take-Off craft in 1954, the XFY Pogo, which was marginally successful, but the U.S. military decided to cancel the project.
Lindberg Models made a lovely 1/48 scale model of the Pogo in 1958, and Atlantis Models reissued this iconic kit in 2025.
A very “Sci-Fi” design, and fun to build. Gotta love those twin propellers!

Another beautiful model, from the Master of Perfect Paint Jobs. A wonderful looking aircraft, it would be right at home in any 1950s science fiction movie.

DeleteGreat modelling of a cool looking aircraft that must have been virtually impossible to land! . Aurora also brought out a 1/48 version in 1954 (in their catalogue from 54 to 59). Aurora were really fast at producing simple cheap new models and brought out some weird and wonderful vehicles. Though accuracy was not their priority as their models were made for kids but they still sold in their millions as kids wanted the latest or coolest thing they'd seen on the TV news or wherever! Also Mistercraft have a 1/72nd version of the Pogo originally made by Mastercraft that can still be found today.
ReplyDeleteYes, those were the days, and its hard to imagine that they did sell millions of these kits to young boys, and came out with so many cool models for us!

DeleteGorgeous job Rob. So clean and neat. It looks ace. My fave shot is the one with the ladder. I wondered how the pilot got in and out! A fantastic bit of plastic all round, thanks for showing us.
