A small selection of photos I took at the recent Project Johnson UFO event, that took place the other week at Cookham, nr. Maidenhead.

We visited several locations seen in UFO. During the tour we visited what's left of BBC Elstree, and Elstree Studios.
Here's a group shot of attendees with Elstree just visible in the background. Sadly Neptune House (SHADO HQ to the uninitiated) has now been demolished.
The event had a selection of both original and replica models on display, which former Century 21 Special Effects technician , Alan Shubrook enjoyed looking over,.
The SHADO Jeep made an appearance, restored and owned by Jim Winch. I can never resist getting in and reaquanting myself with the feel of it.
Jim was happy to give joy rides.

The next event is planned for March next year, and will take place in Leeds.

ReplyDeleteSad to hear of Neptune House's demise, but I did get to work at BBC Elstree quite a few times, so got to visit the famous 1960s reception area.
I even got to pull in there once, just like Straker, to drop something off.

It was a great get together, Mish, and like Smallspace, which is coming up next month, these events have become essential in person social gatherings.
DeleteWhile most of the locations on the tour ranged from easily recognisable to totally obscure, to be honest, Mish, I thought Elstree Studios and Shenley Road looked quite depressing, which was a shame as there was so many filming locations from lots of sixties and seventies productions down that road. The gate house at BBC Elstree and the surrounding area quite was also very run down , nothing like I imagine it was in it's heyday. As you say, very sad, but I guess that's progress. I'm glad I visited it, though.

ReplyDeleteLooks like a grand do Scoop. Besides UFO, I used to really like Ayshea's Lift Off TV pop show. A great talent. My Mum liked dishy Peter Gordino so she watched a couple of UFO episodes with me too! Glad to see Alan S still going strong. He helped me out when I first kicked off the blog. Hope your website does well. It should with your photography skills and travels.
