Hi,
As artist Frank Frazetta (1928-2010) has come up a number of times on Moonbase Central, I thought these two Oil Paint By Number Sets would be of interest. Both are on Black Velvet.
The Fantastic Art of Frank Frazetta sets included ‘A beautiful 12 x 16 Velvet painting panel – twenty oil colors – artist’s brush – and complete instructions’. There were two different sets – 1821 Death Dealer (the original was painted in 1973), a mounted figure with an axe; and 1822 Silver Warrior (painted 1972), which included a sled team of Polar Bears.
The sets were made by Craft House Corporation, of Toledo, Ohio, in the USA, copyright date 1978. They were recommended ‘For ages 8 to adult’.
In very tiny lettering it does say ‘Frame Not Included’. There are very few sales listings for these sets.
Six photographs, from Worthpoint and Ebay, in three batches.

Frank Frazetta

I'm a big fan of Frank Frazetta - who isn't? - and have several of his books, though there are also lots of expensive newer editions I don't have, which I suppose just present all the old work in a new format. Frazetta's daughters are now busy 'preserving his legacy' - which seems to consist mainly of taking people to court if they rip off the artwork!
ReplyDeleteAh, Frank. What an icon. I adored his stuff as a teenager. It blew me away. I didn't know about his daughters. I guess when your Dad's so famous and prolific it sort of makes sense to keep it going as the family business.
DeleteI would imagine trying to recreate the fussy, tedious artwork of Frazetta in paint-by-numbers format would be an exercise in frustration! SFZ
ReplyDeleteFussy and tedious! Whoah! Controversial SF! You not a Frank fan?
DeleteI think about Frank's final years, where he got hold of his classic paintings and a paintbrush and tried to "improve" them.
ReplyDeleteA salutary lesson in Artistic judgement...
I didn't know he did that Looey.
