Cornflakes and Hot Milk!

I remembered the other day that I had cornflakes as a kid with .... Hot milk!

The memory came flooding back. The milk was creamy too and heated up it left a sort of bubble scum on the flakes in the bowl.

Not sure I could eat it now, deffo not with creamy milk. Semi-skimmed maybe!

Hot Milk was also poured over Weetabix, which was better I think. The two went together really well, all sugared up.

Don't think Sugar Puffs or even Shredded Wheat got the hot milk treatment though. Of course Ready Brek was made for it, the best of all, central heating for kids!

Did you enjoy hot milk on your cereals readers?

  1. Wow, that's a new one on me - I always insisted on the coldest milk possible for my corn flakes! SFZ

  2. Never hot milk with cereal for me Woodsy (too much like cooking for my mum, who hated cooking) but my wife remembers having it with Frosties.

    1. Frosties, wow! I wondered what happened to the sugar frosting in hot milk? I bet it was deliciously sweet Mish!

  3. Huh? Never heard of that one before Woodsy! Growing up in the city we had the milk from the supermarket across the street - nothing special. However, when I was stationed in Germany we would buy fresh from the cow milk from a local farmer and occasionally would have a bowl of cereal with udder warm milk.

    1. Cor, not sure I could have done that Ed. You're a brave man! You see public dairies in Germany now on farms called a Milch Tankstelle which means Milk filling station! Always makes me chuckle.

    1. I loved Reddy Brek too. I could eat a bowl now no problem. What do you have on your sourdough bread?

  5. That was one of those experiments my mum and I tried out. Unfortunately my memories are all of a soggy monolithic mass in my bowl. Cornflakes are crispy so the flakes remain managable when eating.
Traditional Porridge is a much better alternative if you want it hot!

    1. Yep, I do like Porridge Looey. Always with salt, not sugar and a ring of cold milk around the edge.
