THE WAR BETWEEN THE LAND AND THE SEA

Looks like another Doctor Who spin-off has hit screens in the UK, with the release  of the first couple of episodes on the BBC iPlayer this morning of the Russel T Davis penned The War Between The Land And The Sea.

As I've not followed Doctor Who since Jodie Whittaker took the titular role I haven't really kept up with current news, apart from it's plummeting ratings, preachy story lines, and the fact that a former companion has apparently regenerated into the new Doctor.

Not having watched the new spin-off, all I've read about it is this six part adventure features creatures called Homo Aqua who look nothing like the original Sea Devils they are apparently based on, and who are understandably miffed about humans polluting the oceans.

Will it save the Doctor Who franchise?

Will you be watching?

  1. I won't be watching. Gave up on modern Who after Capaldi. I'm content with 60's to 80's stuff!

  3. I may check out the first episode. I'm just settling down to watch the shortened version of the Sea Devils on BBC 4 right now.

  5. I did end up watching it, and I must admit it certainly wasn't as bad as I thought it might have been. Yes, there was the usual RTD/BBC diversity ticking boxes exercise, but apart from that it held my attention. There is an action sequence towards the end which makes you wonder why Homo Aqua didn't act sooner, but that may addressed as the story pans out. I won't say anymore as I know people won't have seen it, and Disney + subscribers in other parts of the world will have to wait till early next year.
Overall, I kept getting Stingray vibes, and the fact that the WASP'S would have wrapped this up in half an hour! 😉

  6. I liked the edited version of The Sea Devils, but it just underlined how much better the classic series was than the current version. Katy Manning! Roger Delgado! Hovercraft! Gunfights! Sea forts! What more could you want? As for The War Between... well, it is terrible snowflakey and preachy, and liable to get worse, but it is well done, and you can't disagree with the basic message.

    1. I didn't mind the edited version of The Sea Devils as it wasn't overly updated like they did with the colourised Daleks and The Wargames.
For The War Between... I've just read the overnight watching figures were 2.82 million for the first episode dropping to 2.05 for the second.
