With MoonBase Junior the Grandson here it means Minecraft or animal videos on YouTube Tube. No normal kids TV as I would know it!
The current animals hit is a 'show' on You Tube called The Fish guys. Basically it's two young American men who have a warehouse full of fish tanks, which they fill with exotic fish they buy from all over the place, all done with a level of excitement I can only dream of!
The whole process, especially the unboxing, is professionally filmed, interspersed with sponsorship from Morgan and Morgan and offers of mystery boxes for sale to the thousands of followers. There's lots of info about the fish and no swearing. It's clearly a career.
The unboxing is a phenomenon I've noticed on You Tube. It's a thing in itself. To film stuff being unboxed. Fish, cosmetics, anything. Toys too.
Is this unboxing craze something you've come across?
The phrase 'online craze' is enough to ensure that I will go nowhere near it. I'm perfecting the grumpy old person bit!

DeleteUnboxing high-priced collector toys by adult men is one of those online crazes that shows how dumb we have gotten. Watching some rich jerk show off their new toy. Wow. SFZ
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of unboxing videos for plastic kits on You Tube. Depending on how well (or poorly) it is done, you get a look at some rare vintage kits, seeing the parts in close-up, the decals, instruction sheet, and other items of interest. Celebrating Vintage Model Kits is a good channel, which covers plastic, wood, transition period wood and plastic hybrid kits, along with old kit catalogues, and even a Pactra paint set. I have sent in a few bits and pieces, and sometimes get a mention, so I might not be totally unbiased here.
ReplyDeleteUnboxing videos do give you a chance to have a look at sometime you may never see in person, or help you decide if you want to spend your money getting an example for your own collection.
I have a set of 3 gashapon balls I bought on my recent trip to Japan.

I've always been surprised that anybody would be interesed in an unboxing, but Paul's explanation of how they can be interesting to those who may not be able to experience them in person, has made me think again.
