Wow, a real luger and full of lead! What a story Baron. My parents fought in WWII so our house did contain strange stuff like Kukris and Kris from the Far East. No guns. My Uncle brought back a Samurai sword, which borrowed for a year in 1973 to study it. Like you do!
My Dad fought in Burmah in WW2. He told me he tried to bring back a Japanese officer's sword but his officers wouldn't let him and had it thrown in the sea, same for his mates pearl handled revolver that he wanted to bring back. They didn't want a load of unregistered weapons entering the UK.
My dad, who also fought in WW2, had a luger pulled on him by a Gestapo officer, whilst a Prisoner Of War in Germany. The Nazi was swiftly disarmed by a nearby British Commando, trained in close combat, and my father was saved. The Commando then called for the camp Commandant, to whom he returned the luger. The shamed Gestapo officer, was then removed from the POW camp, and was probably sent to the Eastern Front !
My dad gave me a real Luger to play with when I was a kid. It had been filled with lead, but that didn't affect how awesome a "toy" it was.
