Bob's Machine Man and Emma Peel

Woodsy,

In your "Meet me at the Turnpike" post, you asked me which robot I received as a kid as a alternative to the Bandai space vehicles. It was Machine Man. An early Japan tin battery operated robot.

Here's a Pic of replacement robot from my collection. I destroyed the original as a kid!

The robot was seen later in the hands of my childhood crush Diana Rigg aka Emma Peel in "The Avengers".

Anyone else?

  1. My father and grandfather ran retail stores for years. There was a time when I received a lot of those tin toys from Japan,, including at least one robot that looked like those. I used to open them up with a screwdriver. They were sharp, but it was neat to see what was printed on the reverse of the tin.

    1. Very resourceful that Baron, opening up robots. Did you put them back together?

    2. Oh sure. I used to take everything apart, then put it back together. I remember fixing a clock that my mother had been ready to throw out.

  2. Sad to say, I never had a tin robot. They were too clunky and old fashioned for me, at the time.
I didn't want 50s looking toys, I wanted new 60s plastic ones, like Zeroids.
Now, of course, I love Robby the Robot clones, tin or not.

    1. I had a Star Strider, I think it was called. That was tin. I find them incredibly alluring, tin robots, like creatures from another time. Yep, I love plastic too.
