In between ALIEN filming HR Giger was in demand for record sleeves too.
One I recall when I was young is ELP's Brain Salad Surgery, it's cover boasting the spikes and bones of Giger's biomechania. The central window gives you a glimpse of ....
More cheekbones appeared on Debby Harry's Kookoo cover and this time Giger's gone skewer crazy.
I'm sure there are more Giver sleeves. Do you know any readers? Has he designed anything else? Book covers? Wallpaper? God forbid, Bathroom furniture?
There's an entire book devoted to Giger's work with Debbie Harry, expensive and limited to 150 copies - https://titanbooks.com/71399-hr-giger-debbie-harry-metamorphosis-limited-edition/
ReplyDeleteMy, that's a luxury item!

DeleteAh, HR Giger - the man who ruined cinema creature design! SFZ
ReplyDeleteWatch it, He'll be sending Xenomorphs your way SF!
DeleteH.R Giger was fired from the production crew of Alien after the producers saw his initial designs, especially of the face hugger and chest burster, as they were deemed far too extreme for the audience. He was re-instated later on, thank god as the Alien itself is one of the most singular designs ever made. ( Sorry SFZ!) Bill
