Hello Woodsy
Another July 4th subject.
Smokey the Bear dates back to the early 50's when a burned bear cub was rescued after a forest fire.
The National Park Service has used his image ever since as a warning for park visitors to be careful and not start forest fires.
Back in 1976 for the Bicentennial the attached car card appeared in NYC Subway cars. I admired it and to my surprise my wife took it down from the wall and gave it to me/ Now it sits framed in my basement looking over my toy trains.

Pity Smokey is out of a job now.
ReplyDeleteOn the subject of taking down posters...
My Dad was on one of his many trips back to Old Blighty and he was travelling on the underground train system.
He noticed old plywood hoardings covering the walls. He peered though a gap and saw something that had been locked away for years...
He reached in and pulled off a vintage Mad Max poster, complete with English Cinema banner!
Like your good wife, he brought a nice present home, from his railway trip!
Hey, fantastic Looey! What a surprise gift! Have you still got the poster and banner?
DeleteLove that subway poster Terran. Love those framed prints you have.
