A painting I did back in 1999, inspired by those fifties comic strip space heroes like Dan Dare and Rick Random, and influenced by the art of Keith Watson, Frank Hampson and Ron Turner.
Thanks. I've got a full run of Lion annuals, the early ones had front covers drawn by Ron Forbes, who also drew the early Captain Condor strip, which was Lion's low budget answer to Dan Dare.
I think showing a dramatic distopian future easily appeals to some people's pessimistic nature. I much prefer a more optimistic outlook on things. I'll take Dan Dare's world of the future, inspite of the the odd alien threat, over the cynical Judge Dredd's miserable Mega City 1 everytime!
Impressive Scoop.
ReplyDeleteJoinery, model making, photography, now drawing/painting. Is there no end to your talents ?!
You say the nicest things, Mish, cheers.
DeleteBTW while you're on, are you going to Smallspace next month?
Not sure yet, Scoop.
DeleteWill try to let you know as soon as I can.
Good lord, that is gorgeous! What medium did you use? I am guessing watercolors? Amazing work! SFZ
ReplyDeleteThanks Zigg. I generally use gouache.
DeleteMarvelous use of gouache. I guess they are watered down fairly well? They sure flow better than my attempts! SFZ
DeleteFab illustration Scoop. Reminds me a bit of Wills Lion Annual cover. I've seen your painting before somewhere. A masthead?

DeleteNice work! I like the deep perspective with the harbour in the background!
ReplyDeleteCheers Lewis, I think I pinced that idea from one of Keith Watson illustrations.
DeleteYou captured the feeling of what the future should be..not the post-apocalyptic vision of later years…Tin Man here needs oil for his Zeerust.
