RED ARROW KIT FAIL!

Here's a photo of my 1:48 scale  Red Arrow aircraft build, as seen in the Thunderbirds episode, Edge of Impact., which uses a 'Lindberg' Drakken with parts from an old 'Revell ' Hustler .Unfortunately, in spite of giving the kit a pre-paint sanding, the Halfords primer I used lost out when some of the over zealous  masking tape was removed.

Looks like it's time for some major paint stripping!

  1. I've had similar problems recently, I wonder if Halfords have changed their primer in some way, or has masking tape glue got stronger?

    1. I since heard that Halfords has changed to a cheaper supplier, Kev, but charged the same price. Once I've stripped the kit, I'll use Hycote primer next time.

    3. Yeah, I'll be giving their paint a wide berth for now.

  2. My Dad was a coach painter. He once spent ages prepping and painting a road tanker and then it was parked under a leaky roof in a rain shower and he had to do it all over again!

    1. Heartbreaking, Kev. Thankfully my Red Arrow is a bit smaller to tackle!

  3. I don't envy any of you builders out there. I'm in a million facebook (Meta) groups and the train guys especially always talk about how they painted a car or engine, wasn't satisfied with the results, and had to strip it and start over. Some of these guys end up re-painting a single piece a half dozen times!!! Good Lord, that's not for me haha
