Looey's Visit to Tin Monkey

Hello there, Moonbasers!

Our slow ramble through blog worthy Antique shops continues...

This time we're visiting the recently opened Tin Monkey in Blaxland.

They have a range of reasonably priced industrial and Academic furniture pieces. I picked up a large Japanese enamelled sign, which is something I've long lusted after.
Of more interest is the small collection of vintage die cast toys, including these post war cars.

I still have my example of this Matchbox Rolls Royce from back in the day! The Matchbox toys are about £7.50, is that OK from where you come from? A lot of Australian prices are quite a bit higher. The Dinkys are a bit pricier...

The movie poster was probably about £12.50.
It's in pretty good condition, but is being featured here for one reason only.
That pink car in the dead center of the composition. Does it remind you of anything? How about if it was painted black?

Hopefully a better range with my future shop visits...

Keep window shopping, friends...

  2. The ticket says 'Leney' die cast from England, but surely it's 'Lesney' ?

The Lincoln Futura from 1955. In the film it is painted red. I remember seeing that film on TV decades ago, but at the time I had no idea that the car would later become the TV Batmobile.
Yes, Lesney. The Matchbox vehicles are actually a mix of 1950s and 1960s models, with the two trucks in the top centre having plastic bodies. The yellow Field Car with brown plastic top has Superfast wheels, so likely early 1970s.

  4. A fabulous poster Looey, filmed in Spain in colour! There can't have been many Futuras there! Great day out you had.

  5. Matchbox prices aren't too bad for the models, although they are predominantly sixties models. Price is about right for an 'antique/vintage' shop - as they will always add a bit extra for 'hipsta tax', meaning anything popular with current generations must be worth a few dollars more. Bill

The prices aren't bad by Australian Antique standards. That "Hipster Tax" effect gets higher, the further up the Mountains you go!
My Japanese sign was about 600mm square and real enamel, not paint!
At £50, I thought it was a bargain in this day and age!
And I didn't need to consider the Matchbox Field Car, because I still have my original from my childhood!
