As a kid I mostly had plastic spades made of greenish marbled recycled plastic.
Later I progressed to metal headed spades with a pointed tip like these.
Modern seaside shops carry a new beach spade, a shovel!
Just think how much sand you could shift with that!
Did you have a bucket and spade as a kid?
I do remember having them Woodsy. My dad would take us to Pewaukee Lake or Lake Mukwanago which had real nice beaches. We never went to Lake Michigan which was much closer to home, as he preferred the smaller lakes outside of the city.

DeleteBeing Wisconsin, we have a lot of place names derived from the various First Nation tribes (as well as French and a smattering of English). As for the sandy beaches, yes they did have them Woodsy! The beaches were a bright tan color with fine sand - wonderful for playing in as a kid!

DeleteThey were a British seaside staple. What is nice to see is as well as a bucket there is now a sand castle mould, instant gratification for those of us that took toy soldiers to the beach.
