THE GHOST OF CAP'N KIDD: I KID YOU NOT!

Sometimes I see an old toy I've never come across before.

Here's one I saw online, the luminous Ghost of Cap'n Kidd from the Matchbox Fighting Furies range.

At first I thought it was a Tomland monster - the feet look the same - but its a Matchbox.

I never associate Matchbox with action figures and I wonder how well this range did. Cap'n Kidd must be a rare old ghost.

Is he one that haunts your shelves?

  1. Got one loose, with a metal screw wound through his back - since no stake available I guess. The fluorescent effect is pretty cool all the same.

    1. It really does look luminous in the picture Arto. A fabulous figure and one I've never seen at a car boot sale that's for sure and I've been to hundreds! Was Fighting Furies an internal success do you think?

    2. Kids next door had them back in the Seventies. Pirates have never been my thing per se, but I've grown a fancy for this particular toy line, both the figures and the gorgeous box graphics. My favourite detail is the stamp-sized treasure map inside Cap'n Peg-Leg's wooden leg!

    1. Blimey, thanks if you did Brian, I believe you. Five years ago is too far back for my cheesing brain to contemplate!

  3. I had one which set sail for ebay many years ago, Woodsy. Sadly haven't found another since. The coffin box design was unique to the Cap'n and makes for a nice display piece if you're lucky enough to find one.
