Thats No Moon..

At xmas, I was watching Toy Story 2 (i'm a huge Pixar fan) and was laughing to see the child Andy playing a version of 'Carpet Wars' with a mix of all kinds of toys and soldiers. A bit later, it was most gratifying to hear Prospector complaining that he'd missed out at being bought and played with, since the wild west toys had been scrapped after Sputnik was launched and everyone wanted space toys! Carpet wars was always a really flexible game and allowed you to involve any toy, but especially for me the ones that fired missiles so I could strafe the massed soldiers on the front lino.

 

Trendmasters produced an inventive toy line some while back which allowed the battle to be fought on two scales - the planetary and the ground. War Planets were a series of playsets including a planet about the size of a large grapefruit, which transformed into a base playset and held a small army of figures and vehicles. Unlike classic soldier toys, the 00/H0 scale figures (spacex size) didn't come with bases and standing up armies of the tiny figures is a nightmare! On the plus side, the arms and legs are poseable and the detail and variety is excellent. The series was short lived however, despite being graced with a large beast planet set and accessory moons, as well as a Shadow Raiders cartoon series.
