Wotans Weekend Spacex Workshop

Inspired by Kevin and Scoops creations on the blog lately, I got the urge to put something together myself.. Ive always got a box of parts on the go and I tend to keep an eye out for useable odds and ends. A quick rummage in the parts box this morning fetched out some nosecones from a selection of fireworks and a couple of deodorant caps. Every November, I pick up the spent plastic caps from firework rockets, with a view to making something with them. Finally, it occurred to me what I could do with them. A spice container and a toothpaste tube later, I had the basis of a Nova Rocket! I collected four plastic tubes from some solar garden lights and with a bare minimum of superglue and a lick of black paint, I had the basic model. The boosters and the two deodorant lids were black plastic and as i didn't have any white primer to hand, I painted the two sections that weren't already black. An end of a pencil sharpener for the main engine and im done!
My modelling skills are not even close to Kev and Scoops and I tend to go for the toy-like feel to models, so i'm making this Nova with a detachable second stage and clip on boosters. Come pay day ill invest in a couple of tins of automotive spray paint and i'll be able to finish the job! But for now, its a few hours fun!

Lovely job Wote, the black NOVA. Great use of odds and sods! I'll call it MORDOR 1.

Excellent! For one frightening moment there, I thought you'd used real fireworks! That looks really good and is not the one I'm making.

It's looking good! I have a T3 clock-radio which was all corroded-up (tails wrong as well!) which I striped down and started to 'fancy' up, I'll have to get it finished and send it over!

Sweet!

And the insides of the first stage in last pic look most convincing!

Thanks guys - like i say, its a quick fun piece, and i am deliberating how to paint it - straight triang purple and orange or valigursky nasa white. Either way, as an exercise, it worked !

Its reassuring to find someone else collects those firework nose cones- though I haven't yet found a use for mine!

Actually, I do the same, the last one I used was in a replica Sea Devil gun!
