JOHNNY ASTRO: THE ORIGINAL SPACE BALLOON

TOY FAIR

Taking a break from a family Sunday, after a yummy dinner of Missus Moonbase's home-made quiche and new potatoes, I'm relaxing in the telly room before I make a pot of Yorkshire tea. I've been again grazing the rich pastures of the online British Pathe archive and found some super footage of one of my fave toys when I was a wee bairn: Johnny Astro! You know the one - like a NASA hairdryer blowing a weather balloon about! It was sensational. The black and white toy fair clip of Johnny A comes around the 2 minutes 41 seconds mark in this old film. Check it out. Does anyone else remember Johnny Astro?

Saw Johnny Astro being demonstrated in a The Hague department store and have always remembered it as being a very imaginative invention. Never had one until a few years ago, and it is as much fun as I always thought it would be. :)

Had one as a kid. Really difficult to land the moon lander, the balloon just blew all over the living room! It had a great vacformed plastic lunar surface with crater which came in handy for use with other space toys and the actual fan was pretty cool too.
