Selection Process

Selections boxes like this one were a HUGE part of our family Crimbo when I was a wee lad in the Sixties and early Seventies. My Mum scattered them about the living room in and between the prezzies like first aid. They were never wrapped apart from when Uncles and Aunts had given one to us as a present. Like a mini-larder they were always available for a quick snack in between the main meals. I'm sure that there was always one particular bar left till last because no-one wanted it. Caramac maybe? It's equivalent in a box of chocolates was the unpopular coffee creme [which I love!], left festering until the bitter end. Talking of boxes of chocolates, besides standards like Black Magic, Terry's All Gold, Milk Tray and Just Brazils, I clearly remember much bigger boxes shaped like hearts and squares with pictures of flowers or dogs on the lids. I've never seen anything like them since. You?

My ideal Selection Box would now include: Topic, Lion, Picnic, Wispa, Double Decker, Marathon [Ok, Snickers] and Twix. If I could dip into the chocolate past I'd also grab a Waifa, Bar Six, Aztec and Amaizin Raisin! Ummm, yum!

What would your select Selection box be?

Bandit, I can still taste them, came in a red wrapper, two-bar Kit-kat lookie-likey and only from Des the milkman!e was also main pusher for the - then - highly exotic 'Ski' yogurt...mmm; fruity!

They still do these selections but they are just plastic-netting 'stockings' with a header-card, not the same thing at all!!!

Bandits! Yeah! My brother always got there first. That makes him the bandit bandit! Wow, I've just had a taste memory of the pineapple chocolate in Terry's All Gold! Shaped like one and wrapped in gold foil! Fantastic. It's not Terry's, it's mine!

I love Caramac. So I'll have that if it's going spare. And a little bit of your Bar Six will go nicely with a cup of tea.

My box would have (in no particular order) ...

Topic,
Caramac,
Cabana,
Bounty,
Picnic,
Chrunchie,
Fry's Creme,
Smarties,
Rowntree's Fruit Pastilles

I remember the kinds of chocolate boxes you mention, Woodsy. Lovely things. But I haven't seen anything like them in years. Maybe in the posher shops, like Harrods and such?

A friend of mine at school got an "Amazin' Raisin" bar in a tuck parcel - when he bit into it, maggots crawled out! My comment of "It's Amazin' what Raisins can do!" was not appreciated! He got an apology plus loads of chocolate from the makers for that...
