Gasket Case

Back in October 2009 reader Ferryman flagged up a gasket mystery relating to a strange card template inside the New Flying Saucer at the bottom of the above picture. The gasket was sort of cat faced and pictured a speedboat in blue, black and white. The identity of this has remained a mystery.....

Until now! I was recently lucky enough to acquire a new T boat, the Dolphin Cruiser and lo and behold, the box art includes, you've guessed it, the blue, black and white speedboat picture on two sides! Mystery solved.
Below you can see the two pictures close up.
Did these card gaskets appear inside all three types of New Flying Saucer: T, JR21 and the German Welt Erkunder?

Third of the Great SWORD Mysteries solved! Now where is our Dr. Watson to write these cases down for posterity ...

Good question, Arto.

"But what have we here?" (crouches and looks closely at the ground) "Examine these footprints impressed in the mud, if you will. Note how the imprint of the left foot is 1.7 mm deeper. And here ..." (rises and walks over to an open garage door) "Study these pieces of brightly coloured plastic, which it is clear have been crushed underfoot." (waits impatiently for the penny to drop). "Come, come, my good fellow! Is it not as evident to you as it is to me that our archivist has been kidnapped by a gang of felons, one of whom favours his left side, was wearing a red coloured scarf and chewing a Jelly Baby? The mystery is afoot, my good friend!"

Well done, Woodsy. But I am still puzzled as to what the piece of card is doing inside the saucer. Could it be they had need of a card insert and rather than purchase more card, used some which had already been printed for the boxes of the Dolphin Cruiser?

Thoughts on this please.

What do we need Dr. Watson for when we have our Dr. Toad ... The Swordhead Chronicles are here!

On the case itself, I find it curious that the piece of #377 is found inside #356 ... Since both numbers must have been in production around the same time (or #377 preceding, so that box leftovers could be reused for Flying Saucers), does it mean that the numbers are not in chronological order?

I'm inclined to think you're right Philatodia. It makes sense.

Hee hee, maybe RP. I thought so until Arto mentioned the numbers. Now I just dunno. This is puzzling, isn't it?
