Frank Hampson Newsreel

Whilst browsing the treasures held within British Pathe's online newsreels archive, I've stumbled across some amazing clips. The first is this knockout film of Dan Dare creator Frank Hampson [click on his name] at home working on his famous strip in 1956. His Dad's involved as well as a young boy and one Joan Porter. Below is a still to wet your appetite. Enjoy!

Young boy is son of Frank, Peter Hampson.

Eric Eden is in there, too.

Peter 'modelled' as Flamer in the strip. Also seen are artists Eric Eden (in space suit) & Don Harley.

Frank Hampson himself is working on art from 'The Man From Nowhere', although I think this may be a mocked up version for the film - the first frame never appeared in the comic, and is paired up with the lower half of the cover of Vol 6, No 26, dated 15 July 1955. The frame of Sir Hubert Guest that Frank Hampson is inking had the alien Crypt Lero sitting in front of him in the published version!

Have to confess a slight shudder down the spine seeing Sir Hubert Guest 'in the flesh' and in colour!
