Christmas is Go 1: A Zero-X'mas!

Here we have, as the first part of a special Christmas celebration of the introduction of ZERO X to the World, the original 1966 UK Front Of House stills for THUNDERBIRDS ARE GO. The United Artists Century 21 Film Production premiered on December 12th at The London Pavilion Cinema. On the night the movie was rapturously received and a star studded audience enjoyed the thrilling adventure featuring the entire International Rescue team viewers were familiar from the television programme. Piccadilly in London played host to the traffic-stopping event. Attendees mingled with the cast and crew as well as the puppet heroes in the foyer and those unable to attend were still able to see the spectacular front of house display as created by South London theatrical outfitters, Gallai Of London. (I am privy to this info because my Mum worked for them at the time and I had a set of Front Of House Stills, a poster and other stuff brought home by her!) For PROJECT SWORD enthusiasts it also saw the launching of the mighty ZERO X hence this yuletide celebration of the film and the related paraphernalia. Watch this space on the run up to Christmas for more movie related pieces. Great to see these, very nostalgic. Many thanks for posting, Jim.

I agree with Wotan, the Zero X pic is smashing.

Great pics. I recall that TV21 (I think) published a special magazine to go with the film, with stills and behind the scenes photos -another thing I've lost over the years.

Glad you guys are enjoying what will be the first of a festive 12 posts Paul and I have been putting together. The TV21 special will be featured in a few days with some ads for it from TV21 too! I love the FOH stills as they give a bit of an idea of the size of sets particularly in the last one with TB2 leaving its hangar. With regard to the PROJECT SWORD event at the London club I know about as much as the rest of you. It tied in, kinda, to '2001' and they had a diorama with toys there along with some 'Dolly Birds'. I actually feel that MOON ZERO TWO was a movie more suitable to be linked with 'SWORD' as the vehicles and the Moon Fargo Bug seen it in are very 'SWORD' in my opinion. I also love the silly old Hammer film too.

Yeah, as Jim said it was a TV21 special, it could have yours for 3/6 in 1966. Glad to hear we might get to see it.
And, of course TV21 did a photo strip of the film, prior to launching the Zero X strip.

The 1967 TV21 Thunderbirds Spring Extra did a nice photo feature on the launch sequence of Zero X, and a black & white cut-away which as we all know? went on to appear, in colour in the Project Sword annual
