Reader Grif has found what is clearly the original Lockheed concept for the Spacex Moon Base HQ and its box art as seen in the comparison above. Grif found the image on David S.F. Portree's wonderful Beyond Apollo Blogspot and David has given permission for the Lockheed image to appear here. It's dated around 1962. You can read more about the Lunar Base concept on David's blog. the question remains - where did the Tri-ang Rovex Lipkin artist see the image in the late 1960's? A comic or annual?
